CMS Leader on New Payment Models (08:16)

The U.S. fee-for-service system is broken, says Patrick Conway, Deputy Administrator and Chief Medical Officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). How can health care leaders change that payment model? Conway discusses CMS initiatives focused on improving care quality and affordability, specifically through alternative payment models and partnerships with clinicians and provider organizations. “If we get the payment model right . . . . We get the outcomes we want out of our system,” says Conway. “We [CMS] are going to have to continue to learn from providers. I guarantee we’ll adjust along the way.”
